I was talking to someone today and asked them what they would love to be able to do in 3 months that right now was challenging.
“Carry my paddle board by myself.”
I have been coaching at the gym for 10 years and the more I ask that particular question the more I hear people who are looking to improve their daily lives. Yeah, sometimes people talk about back squats or pull ups but more often than not is is about looking better, feeling better and/or functioning better in life.
In no particular order here are some immediate thoughts that come to mind in moving in a direction of well-being (and, I would argue, many gains):
- Sleep
- Eat well – start with cutting back on processed foods…no I did not say eliminate, although…
- Be consistent (in exercise, eating, sleeping)
- Find someone that will hold you accountable to what you really want to accomplish (I’m talking about someone that you trust and respect)
- Strength train (I don’t care what age you are, add resistance training to your life)
- Simplify workout routines – you don’t need 20 movements in a day’s workout
- Simplify life – know what’s important. Being busy for the sake of being busy doesn’t give you value. Sticking to your values gives you (and others around you) value
- Sleep
