Consistency maintains your message.
Well, that begs the question: what is the message you want to relay?
We had a challenge posted on our private Facebook page to pick something in December and do it….for the whole month….every day. Jackie took up the challenge and decided she was going to walk at least a mile a day. That was her message.
Day 16 she posted the pic you see and wrote this: “I didn’t want to go but I needed to break out of my desk captivity….and….once I got out I didn’t want to stop….
Move a little bit more today than yesterday.”
Working in this industry for as long as I have I find that we often like the theory. We want to exercise…in theory. We want to eat well…in theory. But at the end of the day it comes down to actually having to do something, consistently. We have to not just get the gym membership but use it. We don’t just have to think about eating well but have to hire someone to help us stay on track, consistently. What we do consistently is what we really believe. It’s the message we truly have.
Jackie could have easily posted she was going to walk a mile a day on December 1 and then December 16 stop at “I don’t really want to go today so I didn’t.” It’s cold or I’m tired or I’m just not feeling it or I have too much work to do. But it wasn’t her message. It wasn’t what she truly wanted. And so, begrudgingly at first, she put her shoes on, took a step towards the door, walked out the door and then started walking.
Consistency maintains the message. It maintains the core of who you are.
What message do you not just want in theory or concept but actually live?
