This past Saturday we held an event, Barbell for Boobs, to create awareness and raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Our very own Gina stood in front of a group of 40 people and shared her story, her inspiring fight that started in her 20s. At the time, kids, marriage, a gym membership…life. They seemed off the table. Fast forward 25 years later to the present…”I never thought I’d have 3 kids. Or be able to come to the gym for an hour a day.”
As the winter rolls in and holiday stuff continues and cloudy days seem endless…there are so many reasons that we create to put our health and fitness second or third or eighth. But this is your fight. Your fight to, for a brief moment (one hour or 4% of your day), show up and focus on yourself.
Standing there listening to Gina’s perspective and joy at her ability to show up and work out with a group of people that she actually likes made me, on Monday, drive into the gym and work out with a couple of pretty awesome guys at the noon class. I had so many reasons not to go in – from work to family to being tired to having a workout with a 25 minute cap that somehow I programmed and who really wants to do it in the first place to (insert a few other excuses). But for that hour, I was able to get a couple of laughs, distract myself from “all the stuff” that was “so important” (but let’s be honest, I’m really not that important)….the shift in mindset leaving that gym was palpable.
Today, fight for yourself.
Thanks Marc for your kind words and reminding us all that we are worth taking care of ourselves. Makes us better so we can take care of others and those that we love.❤️
