My wife and I were watching a show and when the episode ended she looked at me and asked, “Was that cafe scene weird?”
I couldn’t believe she asked me that because I was thinking the same exact thing. These two strangers entered a restaurant, ordered coffee and then ended up sitting down together, talking in close proximity…and not one person was wearing a mask at any point!
I realize it was filmed pre-COVID but it stood out immediately to both of us…even seemed weird.
As I thought more about that I realized how quickly realities and perspectives can shift. Nine months ago my wife and I would not have thought twice about that scene. Fast forward to today and we are looking through a different kind of lens.
I definitely miss moments like this picture from our internal competition back in 2018. I miss high fives and hugs after PRs. Team photos. Sitting down next to eat other after class and talking for a 1/2 hour. But I can also start to have a pretty sad shift in reality if all I think about are the things I miss.
And so I want to celebrate what I have. Even though I can’t give high fives or hugs: I want to celebrate this tremendous gym family that I have. I want to celebrate that I can still see faces on a daily basis. I want to celebrate the consistency of a group of people striving to improve their health and fitness. I want to celebrate how far you all have come in your health and where it will continue to go.
Let’s celebrate what we do have even in our little squares at the gym. And we certainly can look forward to the hugs and high fives in the future!
